Remember Quake Live? You know, the free game that ID Soft released that suppose to give the company revenue by placing ads in the game? Well, John Carmack said that placing ads in Quake Live is not working for the company.
Carmack said to Shacknews that “The in-game advertising stuff has not been big business…[it will] not going to be able to carry the project. Quake Live is gonna be Quake Live for the foreseeable future. It’s only just now that we’re going to be able to put it to the test.” What does that mean? It means that Quake Live will adopt a pay-to-play model. Despite Quake Live moving to a subscription based model, there is a benefit to this new model. This new Pay-To-Play model will give players to create and host private server matches.
