When the PS3 came out in 2006, PS2 sales were still going strong. Many people expected that the PS3 will never catch up to PS2 sales due to its dismal console launch. However, it seems like things have changed. Now, many people expect that the PS3 will finally beat PS2 sales.
What’s the cause of a sudden pick up in sales? The reason is because of the number of high profile games finally making an appearance. The first high profile game to come out was Metal Gear Solid 4; Guns Of The Patriot, which sold 465,000 units worldwide. SCEE president David Reeves has recently made a comment about the assumption that the PS3 ends its life cycle more successful than its predecessor;
“The PS3 install base is growing faster that the PS2’s was at this point in its life cycle. The next five years are going to be turbulent.[But] I think it is going to be the most exciting period that we have ever seen in the past ten years of video games. We welcome all competition. Whatever happens, we are all going to do well. We should celebrate the growth of the industry.”
