The original levels in Portal are…what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh yes! Cake (lol)!Just completing the 19 chambers in the game are really easy if you know what you’re doing. Anyway, because of the lack of challenge in the original Portal maps, many people think they can make much harder maps than the maps featured in Portal. Of course, I mentioned the popular Portal Mappack: The Flash Version in the Map of the Week article two weeks ago, which was a complete remake of the levels featured in the flash version of Portal.Well, I found another hard map that will drive you truly insane. Introducing, Facility Advance Beta 1, our Map of the Week.

Facility Advance Beta 1 is a brand new version of the classic Facility map for Portal. According to the read me file, the author has not been working non-stop on this map. According to him, the reason he has been working slowly on because it allowed him to keep his mind fresh as well as the obstacles different every time. Well, that’s apparently true. When I first downloaded this map, I had no freaking idea what to do.

When the chamber start, you don’t have the Portal gun until you go through the first orange portal you see. Once you do that, you obtain the Portal gun-that can make only blue portals! I know how difficult it was using only blue portals in the original levels of Portal, and this was no exception. All throughout Pariah’s Guild playtime with the map, we had to use the orange portal, which has lied horizontal, in order to do anything. For example, after two minutes of running around saying to myself “OMG! What the heck am I suppose to do?”, I finally found a door that could be opened (embarrassing). However, I had an unpleasant surprise when I found hallways filled with turrets, which took me out during my first try. After five minutes trying to take care of every turret filled in that hallway using just a blue portal and a lot of momentum, I found a switch which opened another door with another challenge, which seemed almost impossible to me. Of course, this is where I stopped during our playtime with the map.

Facility Advance Beta 1 is another excellent, but difficult Portal map that will rank you brain like playing a game of Sudoku. The map has plenty of surprises install for you once you download the map, from a hallway filled with turrents, all the way to a wall that seems almost impossible to jump over. Of course, don’t take my word for it. Here’s some gameplay footage when we played the map.
