If you’re an avid user on Newgrounds.com, then you probably remember finding a Flash version of the Portal as their featured game. The flash game featured more than 20 levels (the original Portal had 18 levels) that were way harder than its PC game brethren. Well, some nut case- I mean “person”- uploaded a map pack for Portal that is inspired by the flash game. This map pack includes 40 levels that’s harder than the original and the flash version combined! Thx!
Like I said before, Portal Flash Map pack is based on the flash version of portal. The creator boasts that this is the longest custom map mod avaiable for the game thus far. One of the biggest things I adore about the map is the steep challenge in the map. Unlike Portal’s original maps, these maps are vastly more complicated and will require quick thinking and sharp reflexives. In one level, I entered a room with a crusher and a pair of stairs. The crusher was going to…crush me if I just stood there. But, using my “ninja” reflexives, I quickly shot a portal towards one area of the room, and wait for the crusher to finally bring down the only collapse able the only part of the room which I could shoot a portal on. Another thing that you will notice in the map is its steep difficulty. For example, remember the map that I said that I used my “ninja reflexives? Well, I finally completed the map on my 10th try (the first time was real funny. When the ceiling started to come down, I simply went back to the perviousness level. However, I immediately died for some reason).
There are some maps that you will recognize instantly from the flash version of Portal. In level three of the map pack, there was this level with three stairs that got higher with every step. Next to each stair was these vertical plateforms that was raised everytime you reached a stair. Natural, I used these platforms to jettison myself to my destination. After I solved the puzzle, I then realized that the level was exactly the same format as one of the levels in the flash version of Portal! Basically, the map keeps true to the Flash game. Also, I was glad to see some elements in the mappack that I never saw in the original Portal.
Finding a great Portal map is hard these days. However, by downloading the Portal Flash Map Pack, I not only received one, but I received 40 great maps! I’ll be occupied for weeks. Now excuse me, I have to meet the companion cube and receive a slice of cake before night time.
Check out this video showing what to expect from the map.
