There are plenty of movies that are classified as Sci-Fi classics. Movies like Blade Runner, Star Wars, and independence Day are just a few examples. But, TMO doesn’t have a lot of sci-fi classics in the online community. Sure, movies like The Courage Within comes once in a while, but overall, the sci-fi genre in TMO is pretty stale. However, I think I found another sci-fi classic that TMO should pay special attention to. Of course, I’m talking about Jay Adams: Detective Story.

To me, Jay Adams: Detective Story should be considered TMO’s first true movie on the same level as the sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. The story is about Jay Adams, a disgrace army op who works as a police officer in Sector 9, one of the worst cities in the nation. Meanwhile, a FBI agent is currently working undercover at a mega corporation to unearth weapons of mass destruction. Later on in the movie, the two will cross paths, and will be a major focus in chapter two. One of the many thing I enjoyed from the movie is the movie’s sci-fi feel. With the inclusion of sci-fi sets, costumes, and lingo, it easy to fantasize this is the world of tomorrow.
Mods and SFX in the movie were a hit and miss. For one thing, the sci-fi sets were great, and the mega corporation army costumes were awesome as well. However, there was one glitch in the movie which involved the cars, which caused some of the wheels on various cars not to spin. Although it may seem minor, it will grow to annoy you after seeing the same glitch for the millionth time. Although the audio was mostly amazing and spectacular, it was weak at some spots. First off, the VO actor who voiced Jay Adams did a fantastic job. I just loved how he combined the sarcasm found in House with Jack Bauer’s “tough-as-nails” attitude. However, some of the VO cast were sometimes inaudible, or just sounded boring. Finally, the free-cam was perfect in the movie, as it provided added dramatic tension to some scenes. One scene in particular was the “close up on the ear while that annoying dog is barking” scene (wow, that was a mouthful).
Like I said in the previous paragraph. The two things hold the movie back from receiving a perfect 5 out of 5 is the car glitch, and a less than average VO cast. Overall, if you’re a sci-fi fan, and you visit TMO on a regular basis, then this movie is a must watch for you. Everyone else should watch it once, and see if you want to watch it the second time.
